Storage of expressed milk



Expressed milk can be stored at room temperature (25°C) for 6 to 8 hours. In the summer in Saudi Arabia, the room temperature is 37 or 38 degrees Celsius. It is best to leave the milk in a permanently air-conditioned or refrigeration room.

No Need to Buy a Room Thermometer Most air conditioning units are equipped with a room thermometer. Look for the Temp button on the air conditioning controller.

Expressed milk can be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 5 to 3 degrees Celsius for 5 to 7 days. Milk should be kept inside the refrigerator and not in the doors or on the edge of the shelves.

You can use glass or plastic feeding bottles Or bags to store expressed milk and be ready to serve immediately after heating it.

Pay attention to the smell and color of the milk when serving. If the milk smells acidic or the color is different from your usual milk color, dispose of the milk immediately and do not serve it because these signs indicate spoilage or poor storage.

How is expressed milk given to the baby?

  1. If expressed milk is kept at room temperature, there is no need to heat it and it can be given to the child directly.
  2. If expressed milk is stored in the refrigerator, heat it in a warm water bath for 5 minutes or until you feel that the milk is warm.
  3. If expressed milk is stored in the freezer, it is left at room temperature until the ice disappears (approximately 8 hours at room temperature in the summer) and then heated in a warm water bath.
  4. Dedicated heating devices can be used for this purpose.
